Gary Houchens

Gary Houchens, Ph.D., is professor and director of the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program at Western Kentucky University. He's a former teacher, principal and district administrator in both public and private K-12 education settings.

Houchens, who earned his Ph.D. at the University of Louisville, has published research on the intersection of leadership and school improvement. He provides regular analysis of education policy reforms for the Bluegrass Institute, and from 2016 to 2019, he served on the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE), where he was chair of the KBE’s Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment committee.
