John C. Mozena

John C. Mozena’s work on economic development policy is informed by more than two decades of private-sector experience in journalism, marketing and communications. This background includes first-hand experience behind the scenes of economic development deals from his time working with downtown development authorities, trade associations, manufacturers, real estate developers and a regional tourism bureau.

Mozena is the president of the Center for Economic Accountability, which he co-founded in 2018 to meet the need for a free-market organization focused solely on state and local economic development policy reform across America. Before founding the CEA, he was the vice president for marketing and communications of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, where his responsibilities included supporting its scholars’ research into economic development policy in Michigan and advocating for market-based policy reforms.

In the 1990s, Mozena co-founded the Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email (CAUCE), advocating for anti-spam policies. As the coalition’s primary spokesperson, he was quoted in outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and CNN.

Mozena is a graduate of the Atlas Network Academy’s Think Tank Leadership Training, a member of the American Enterprise Institute Leadership Network, a Senior Fellow at the Reason Foundation, a Fellow at the Better Cities Project, a Contributing Scholar at the ITR Foundation and holds an Accreditation in Public Relations from the Public Relations Society of America.
